Current activities

The core funding of the Dutch development organizations HIVOS ended in 2010. A major result is the publication of the Toolkit Working with Schools 1.0 and the Toolkit Storytelling and Peer Education (later in 2011). GALE is currently developing new plans and proposals with other donors.

The Dutch government has asked GALE to develop a strategy to improve the right to education for LGBT people. This needs to be done in close cooperation with UNESCO and other relevant UN agencies and internationals NGOs like ILGA, IGLYO and Education International. The project will take four years.

In 2011, GALE is a partner in a European project to mobilize schools. This will be done through empowering secondary students. Students can play a school game to raise awareness about homophobia.
Plans that are in preparation are:

• storytelling about LGBT issues in Asia
• gender mainstreaming and LGBT issues
• media training in (southern) Africa
• finalizing pilot projects in schools in Latin America and developing a follow-up strategy for dissemination and advocacy
