06 octobre 2008 - Mia Hemming, a journalist from Finland is preparing an article about hopes of same sex couples to have children. Anyone with information is invited to respond.

The letter from Mia, published on several mailing lists:

I am a journalist and I am writing to you from Finland.

I am preparing an article which would deal with the hopes of same sex couples to have children and the official and unofficial ways to fulfill those hopes. The article would concentrate to countries outside developed countries.

I would write that article to KEPA's Finnish language journal Kumppani which is the voice of the South in the North. In Kumppani you can read articles on daily life in developing countries and multicultural Finland.

KEPA, or the Service Centre for Development Cooperation, is a service base for Finnish NGOs interested in development work and global issues.

Is there among you some one or ones who could answer to my questions concerning topics mentioned above?

The questions I would like to have answers are:
(all questions concern countries outside of developed countries)

  • what does the legislation in countries outside of developed countries say about same sex couples and their rights for parenthood
  • is parenthood of same sex couples an active concern of activism in them
  • is there official ways for same sex couples to have children
  • is there unofficial ways used by same sex couples to have children and what are they
  • how ordinary is in countries outside of developed countries that same sex couples are a family with children

You could answer to the questions above concentrating in some area or in one country or some countries outside of developed countries, no need to be able to give an overall view to all countries outside developed countries.

I would be grateful of all kind of answers, short or long ones, answers to one question or all.

You can answer me by email: mia.hemming@uta.fi

Sincerely,

Mia Hemming
